Summary:
The senior services department aims to promote the quality of life of elders in the Bethel
community by providing daily lunches through the Meals on Wheel program and associated
congregate meals. As such, the Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking daily meals for
department clients, and other associated duties. This position is responsible for supervising and
monitoring compliance with sanitation and infection control procedures and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: Develops monthly menus and works with supervisor to get menus
approved by certified dieticians/nutritionists, follows approved menus to prepare and cook
100-200 lunches from Monday – Friday for Department clients for delivery and for congregate
meals, assists with food supply orders, performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, food
preparation, food inventory, stocking, and serving duties in a commercial kitchen and/or serving
area, maintains a clean and safe cooking environment for proper food preparation, and obtains
and maintains the necessary food worker licenses. Collaborates with other Senior Services staff
to deliver or provide meals in a timely manner. Maintains good working relationships with staff
and/or department partners.

Qualifications:
Must have working knowledge of meal planning and work in a food-service setting for a
minimum of two years. Must have the ability to establish positive and effective relationships
with elderly clients, the general public, and other staff members. Have experience in food
preparation and procurement procedures. Must have the ability to maintain, clean, and sanitize
the kitchen in accordance with ACoA standards. Must understand and comply with the Food
Service Guide for Senior Meal Program. Must be knowledgeable and experienced with
preparation of local native foods or willingness to learn. Experienced with proper operation and
storage of kitchen equipment. High school diploma or equivalent required. Must have CPR and
First Aid certifications or willingness to obtain them. Must be willing to have a criminal
background check. Must have a valid Alaska driver’s license and be insurable under ONC’s
insurance coverage.
