June 20, 2014

Press Release

Zack Brink, Executive Director of ONC, Gloria Simeon, President of ONC Tribal Council, Louie Andrew, Traditional Chief of ONC, and Council Members.

ONC as the largest Tribe in the Region requests that the Tribal and community members along the Kuskokwim River, understand as traditional users of King salmon, it is our responsibility to preserve and protect our King Salmon by taking conservative measures.  With the assistance of the Kuskokwim River Salmon Management Working Group, and other Agency partners we can ensure the future survival of the King Salmon Stock.

There are other species of fish such as Chums, Sockeye, Coho, Sheefish, and whitefish that we can fulfill our subsistence needs.  We do not condone threats of violence and are asking our Tribal and Community members to respect our fellow neighbors in the Conservation of King Salmon.

We would also like to Thank our Tribal and community members for being patient in this tough situation we all experiencing now.
